Never Be the Same Again
Disclaimer: Unfortunately, I don’t own the characters and or the song used, but I can dream, can’t I.
Based on the song "Never Be the Same Again" by Mel C featuring Lisa Lopez

I call you up whenever things go wrong
You’re always there,
You are my shoulder to cry on
I can’t believe it took me quite so long,
To take that forbidden step
Is this something that I might regret?
Liz Parker lay on her deck chair on the roof of her parents' restaurant, The Crashdown Café, staring up at the now familiar constellation in the night sky. The radio beside her had just started playing a song that sang the words of her heart. The words fit her relationship with Max Evans so well. Or, more truthfully, the lack of same.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained
A lonely heart that can’t be tamed
I’m hoping that you feel the same
This is something that I won’t forget...
That was Max through and through. Unable to admit that his heart was lonely. For her. Since that night at the Crashdown, when she saw into his soul and realised he loved her, they had been playing this torturous game of dodging the truth.
I thought that we would just be friends
Things will never be the same again
It’s just the beginning, it’s not the end
Things will never be the same again
It’s not a secret any more
Now we’ve opened up the door
Starting tonight and from now on
Never, never be the same again...
Ever since Liz had known Max, he’d had his secrets. Always the loner. But when Liz had been shot, Max had risked it all to heal the one he had loved for 10 years. And then secrets had to be told.
Now I know that we close before
I’m glad I realised I need you so much more
And I don’t care what everyone will say
It’s about you and me and we’ll never be the same again...
That one secret, that Max, his sister Isabel and their best friend, Michael Guerin, were ‘Not of this Earth’ had brought them all closer. Liz had had to tell her best friend, Maria DeLuca, the truth about the aliens, and in a moment of desperation, she had been forced to tell her other best friend, Alex Whitman. Now the 6 of them clung to each other as they stumbled towards adulthood.
I thought that we would just be friends
Things will never be the same again
It’s just the beginning; it’s not the end
Things will never be the same again
It’s not a secret any more
Now we’ve opened up the door
Starting tonight and from now on
Never, never be the same again...
Max Evans sat out the back of his house, staring at the constellation that was now permanently embedded in his brain. Isabel’s bedroom window was open and he could hear her latest favourite song blaring through the speakers for what seemed like the fiftieth time that night. He’d heard it so many times he knew all the words by heart. And each word struck a chord. He lay back on the grass and thought about Liz Parker.
Night and Day
Black beach sand to red clay
The U.S to the U.K
N.Y.C to L.A
From sidewalks to highways
See it’ll never be the same again
What I’m saying
My mind frame never changed
‘til you came and rearranged
But sometimes it seems completely forbidden
To discover these feelings we kept so well hidden
Where there’s not competition
And you render my condition
Though it’s improbable, it’s not impossible
For a love that could be unstoppable
But wait
A fine line’s between fate and destiny
Do you believe in the things
That were just meant to be?
When you tell me the stories of your quest for me,
Picturesque is the picture you paint effortlessly
And as our energies mix and begin to multiply everyday situations
They start to simpify
So things will never be the same between you and I
We intertwined our life forces
And now we’re unified...
Max climbed into his jeep and drove through the deserted streets of Roswell until he came to that familiar building in which his life had changed forever. From the radio, that same song was playing, and as he turned off the motor, he heard it coming from the roof of the Crashdown Café. He climbed up the ladder to the roof and stood, eyes locked with Liz’s, as the song kept playing.
I thought that we would just be friends
Things will never be the same again
It’s just the beginning; it’s not the end
Things will never be the same again
It’s not a secret any more
Now we’ve opened up the door
Starting tonight and from now on
Never, never be the same again...
Max closed the distance between them as Liz rose to her feet. They never took their eyes off one another, and not a word was spoken as Max stood in front of her. As their lips met in a fiery kiss, the song played on, still singing their story.
We’ll never be the same again
Things will never be the same again
Never be the same again
It’s not a secret any more
We’ll never be the same again
It’s not a secret any more
We’ll never be the same again
Never be the same again
Oh yeah, never be the same again
Never be the same again, uh uh
Never be the same again...
This is the beginning.
Their story will never end.
