Not Tonight
By Ashley (fireryangel@aol.com)

Max had just woken up from a bad dream. "Man, where did that come from?" he said in a low whisper hoping not to wake anyone up.

He looked over at his night stand. Where was his clock? He found it on the floor. How did it get there? He thought to himself. It was 3:30.

Ok, he began thinking, let's figure out that dream.

Why was Tess in my dream? More so, why was I making love to Tess in my dream? Max had only known her for a little over a month. He knew that they belong together. It said so in that book. But he belonged to Liz. They were soulmates.

Max got out of bed. Then he put some clothes on and went through his window to go see Liz.

Max walked to Liz’s. He did not want to take the Jeep because it would have woken everyone up. Max climbed the ladder to Liz’s window. He saw her sleeping at her desk.

She must have been up late studying, he thought to himself.

He tapped at Liz’s window lightly so as not to wake anyone but her up.

"Mmm, Max," Liz said in her sleep.

Max heard her. He wondered what she was dreaming about. Then he tapped at her window again.

Liz woke up. She looked at her window. Was she still dreaming? Was Max really at her window?

"Liz, can I come in?"

Liz got up and opened her window. "Max what are you doing here at..." she trailed off, looking for her clock. "...At 3:56 in the morning?"

"I just needed to see you, Liz."

"What do you mean Max?"

"I love you, Liz," Max said, taking her in his arms. He kissed her. It was not just one of their usual kisses. This kiss was different. This was a deep passionate kiss.

"Max," Liz moaned into his mouth.

Liz could feel everything he felt. Sense everything he sensed. It was like they were making a connection. But how?

"Liz," Max said, pulling a little bit away from her. "I need you. I will always need you. I love you, Liz. I will always love you. You are my soulmate."

Liz began to cry. Not tears of hurt or of being sad, but of happiness. "I love you too, Max. I will always love you too. And you are my soulmate also."

Then they were back to kissing. When they shared these kisses they made a connection, but deeper than the kind that they had when they had visions. It was kinda creepy but they didn’t care. They thought this was what it was like to be loved. To know who your soulmate is.

It was a good thing that Liz’s parents bedroom was down the hall. If it wasn’t, they would be awake by now. Not that Max and Liz were doing anything bad. But they were a little noisy.

"Max..."

"Yeah Liz?"

"Make love to me."

"Liz," Max said, backing up. "What did you say?"

"Max, I want you to make love to me."

"Are you sure? I mean that I don’t think it is a good idea. I'm not really from around here. You know this," he said, with shock and fear in his voice.

"Max, I haven't asked you anything this big before. What do you think the answer would be? I don’t care where you are from. I don’t care that you're an alien. I love you. That is good enough for me," she said with hurt in her voice.

"Liz, I don’t know."

"Max, please, I need this. Why can’t we do this? We love each other?"

"What if something happens? I mean like I said before, I’m an alien."

"Max, like I said, I don’t care."

"Liz, I love you. I don’t want anything to happen. We don’t know what would happen? I just think we should wait."

"Ok, Max. You're right. But I can’t wait forever. You know this, right?"

"Yeah, Liz. I know. I can’t wait much longer either. But I think we should wait. This should be special. It should be romantic."

"Max, will you stay the rest of the night?"

"Yeah Liz," he said, smiling. "Just in the morning though, say that you came over early for breakfast. Ok?"

"Ok," he said. Then he kissed her one last time before getting into bed with her.

"I love you, Max Evans."

"I love you, Liz Parker."
