I think I did it again
I made you believe
We’re more then just friends...

Isabel Evans stirred her straw aimlessly around in her soda as she watched Alex Whitman sulk at the counter of the Crashdown Café. Alex had just stormed away from the table that Isabel now sat at, alone. Isabel looked over at her best friends as they watched the lover’s tiff. Liz Parker shook her head at Isabel, who shrugged. She listened to the song that had just started playing on the jukebox. Isabel had to contain the urge to laugh at the irony of the words. How well they fit the situation she was in with Alex.

Oh baby
It might seem like a crush
But that doesn’t mean that I’m serious
Cause to lose all my senses
That is just so typically me...

Alex Whitman sat at the counter, feeling dejected, as four of his five best friends, Liz Parker, Maria DeLuca, Max Evans and Michael Guerin, chatted casually around him. Alex listened to the song playing on the jukebox and rolled his eyes. The words may as well have been sung by Isabel Evans, rather than the teeny bopper who was singing them.

Oops... I did it again
I played with your heart
Got lost in the game
Oops. You think I’m in love
That I’m sent from above
I’m not that innocent...

Well, I was sent from above. Isabel smiled at the thought. Although, not in the sense that that teeny bopper means. Isabel, her brother Max, and their best friend, Michael, were ‘Not of the Earth’, as they preferred to refer to themselves. In other words, they were aliens. And the only humans who knew about them, Liz, Maria and Alex, accepted them not only as friends, but as best friends. But, Alex wanted more from Isabel. And she wasn’t sure she had it in her to give that to him.

You see my problem is this
I’m dreaming away
Wishing that heroes, they truly exist
I cry watching the days
Can’t you see I’m a fool
In so many ways
But to lose all my senses
That is just so typically me
Baby, oh...

Isabel watched Alex as he sulked at the counter. Alex could feel her eyes on his back. He stirred his straw aimlessly around in his coke, his mind processing the words of the song. Heroes do exist, Is. Why can’t you see that? Alex wandered to himself. He vowed he wouldn’t turn around to look at those eyes that were to blame for this feeling inside of him.

Oops, I did it again
I played with your heart
Got lost in the game
Oh baby, baby
Oops, you think I’m in love
That I’m sent from above
I’m not that innocent...

I wish I were that innocent. Isabel got to her feet as Max waved her over. I break hearts, and I don’t care. Well, I don’t usually. Guilt was a feeling Isabel wasn’t familiar with, but she felt it now. And she hated it.

Oops, I did it again to your heart
Got lost in the game, oh baby
Oops, you think that I’m sent from above
I’m not that innocent...

Isabel’s eyes met with Max’s, and he nodded towards Alex. Isabel nodded and patted Alex on the back. Alex looked at her, hurt and confusion showing in his eyes, and Isabel felt like she could lose herself in those beautiful eyes.

Oops, I did it again
I played with your heart
Got lost in the game
Oh baby
Oops, you think I’m in love
That I’m sent from above
I’m not that innocent...

Alex looked up at Isabel expectantly, and for once in her confusing life, Isabel was at a loss for words. So, she went with her heart. She leaned down and kissed Alex softly. The pair became so preoccupied that they didn’t notice as their friends let out a collective sigh of relief. And Isabel hoped she wasn’t making a mistake.
