He walked down the empty halls of W. Roswell high school.

The school was partly build out of red brick stone walls and he smirked ironically at himself.

The bell rang, and suddenly he was surrounded by kids he didn’t know.

He turned a corner and caught a glimpse of the familiar face he was looking for. Yes, he was looking for her, and her alone.

But he couldn’t just approach he like that, could he ?

When I saw you
I thought I knew you
But that’s too easy for me...

He turned and went back the way he came when two arms caught him and dragged him into the infamous eraser room.

“Hey buddy,” she said. “Don’t you know...”

...you can run but you can’t hide...

He cupped her face in his hands, and cut off her talking with a soft kiss.

I don’t wanna say no more, no more...

She looked so beautiful.

“Why,” he thought, “can’t I tell her this?”

I just can’t tell you
I love you
It’s gonna take some time
I’ve built these walls all around me
Let’s see if you can climb
And I don’t know why
Why they’re so high
But I can’t tell you I love you...

“I love you, Michael,” she whispered, and he immediately pushed her out of her embrace, knowing that what he did was wrong

Please don’t touch me
please don’t judge me
just go easy on me...

She wasn’t hurt, she knew that he loved her, but she also knew that he needed some time.

He slowly looked her in the eyes and opened his arms for her once more, and she fell back in his warm familiar embrace.

But my confession is that
I want you
Maybe that can launch you
Over to the other side...

“I’m sorry, Maria,” he whispered. “I just can’t... I’m so sorry.”

I just can’t tell you
I love you
It’s gonna take some time
I’ve built these walls all around me
Let’s see if you can climb
And I don’t know why
Why they’re so high
But I can’t tell you I love you...

“I know, Michael,” she whispered, and kissed him.

“I want this to be real. Not just make-believe love,” he said seriously.

I learned love is never real for the pretenders
And I’m no pretender...

“ So...wait for me?” he asked.

“Always, spaceboy.” She smiled, because she knew that in time, she would break down his walls.

And when she had done so...

He loved her now, but he couldn’t tell her.

He could only show her, and it was good for now.

He kissed her and smiled because he knew that she, if anyone, was the one to make him say the proverbial three words.

I just can’t tell you
I love you
It’s gonna take some time
I’ve built these walls all around me
Let’s see if you can climb
And I don’t know why
Why they’re so high
But I can’t tell you I love you...
